Welcome

Wominjeka. Welcome. We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we meet, the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging. We also acknowledge our gratitude that we share this land, our sorrow for some of the costs of that sharing and our collective hope and belief that we can move to a place of equity, justice and partnership together.

Located in the Hills, committed to serving our local community. At our heart is the wisdom and teachings of Jesus which include deep listening, compassion, hospitality, justice and loving one another, especially marginalised people.

Comfortable with all faiths/denominations and gender diversity. Collaborative and intergenerational. Friendly, and understanding, exploring spirituality and contemplation, evolving, and changing. Connected to and conversing with our community, offering marginalised people a place to feel safe. Grounded in Justice, thinking outside the square.

You’re welcome to call us on (03) 9754 2177,  contact us via email,  follow us on Facebook,  have a look around our website or come and visit us at 1566 Burwood Highway, Tecoma.

This Sunday – May 19th Pentecost

This week we celebrate Pentecost – a story that calls us to appreciate the unity that exists within extravagant diversity.

To help us explore this, we are asking people to come wearing one predominant colour.

Ideally we’d love you to wear a bold bright colour to help us celebrate the rainbow that is our community.

IDAHOBIT Sunday – May 26th

Friday May 17th was IDAHOBIT: International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia.

Sunday May 26th, we plan to have our day to advocate for this.

Samuel Hardidge will be interviewed, Darcy will be offering the prayers of the people and Joana is going to offer the gift of song. It will be a great chance for us to listen and learn and to explore together what it means to help make the world safe for the glorious diversity of people that make up our humanity.

Evolving Faith Discussion Series

We launched out discussion series this week. It continues this Tuesday night and you are welcome to join us – even if you missed the first one. This week is looking at Peace and Justice (episode link here), meeting in the Meeting room at 7pm – 8:45pm.

The series will run for 5 Tuesday nights, but pausing on Tuesday May 21st.

It will be a chance to unearth and explore the questions we have around some of the foundational aspects of Christian faith; including grappling with questions like;

  • How are we to respond to other faiths – and are there other ways to God?
  • How are we to approach these ancient scriptures in light of life today?
  • Do we need saving … and if so, from what and to what?
  • What does a faith engaged in the world look like?

We are asking people to listen to a podcast episode in the lead up as a prompt for discussion, but primarily it will a chance to learn more and to hear more from each other.

If you want to get a sense of the direction of the series and the content we’ll be discussion, you can listen to the podcast here and the first episode (link here) will be a good primer to get a sense of the kind of content we’ll be discussion.

A sign up sheet is at the back of the church or an online version is here.

Volunteer Morning Tea

20-26 May is volunteer week and we value the prompt to acknowledge all those who make what we do through the Tecoma Uniting Church tick.

So we’d like to invite you to a Volunteer Morning Tea on Sunday May 26th. It will run from 11:30am to 12.30pm and will simply be a chance to gather and to thank and celebrate all our volunteers.

It will be a great way to value all the contributions people make, and to appreciate what we create together.

There will be a wide range of morning tea catering to a diversity of dietary needs.

There is no need to RSVP – just make it if you can and know you and your contribution is valued.

You are welcome to email through any specific dietary requirements if we haven’t been made aware of them before.
